PESPOS 2013

Neuropathic Bladder, Bladder Reconstruction, Research in Regenerative Urology, and Pediatric Voiding Disorders.

We are proud to present an international faculty of well-known specialists coming from clinical practice and research.

Dysfunctional voiding is a frequent condition in childhood and systematically underdiagnosed. Despite growing literature there is still confusion regarding diagnosis and treatment. We hope we can contribute to the discussion and find some practical consensus.

Treatment of neuropathic bladder is complex, challenging and sometimes frustrating. We try to focus on all the relevant topics of neuropathic bladder like anatomy, neurology, pathophysiology, urodynamic evaluation and treatment options.

We try to focus on several aspects of bladder surgery and urogenital reconstruction: augmentation, epispadias repair, extrophy and surgery for continence. Experts will critically share their experience.

Last but not least, we are very proud to invite you to the workshop –

Establishing Research in Pediatric Urology.

These days scientific output becomes more and more important. However, for young researchers it is not easy to start projects without guidance or within already existing structures. In this workshop we try to cover all aspects of clinical and experimental research with special emphasis on the questions of young investigators: What is a good topic? How to write a paper? What journal? Collaboration, ethics and funding etc. We are sure that there will be time for networking and perhaps you will leave PESPOS with new ideas and spirit.

Vienna in December is amazing. Walk through the historic city. Enjoy the opera or one of the world famous museums. Do some Christmas shopping and visit one of the atmospheric Christmas markets. We will arrange a memorable social program.

We look back on to a wonderful time!

Topics were covered:

  • Pathophysiology of neuropathic bladder

  • Fetal MRI

  • Urodynamic investigations

  • Non-surgical treatment of neuropathic bladder

  • Surgical treatment of neuropathic bladder

  • Techniques of bladder reconstruction

  • Strategies to avoid bladder reconstruction

  • How to run an interdisciplinary service for children with neuropathic bladder

  • The future of bladder reconstruction (tissue engineering and others)

  • Management of chronic renal failure in children with neuropathic bladder

  • Quality of life issues in neuropathic bladder

  • Obstructive uropathy and reflux nephropathy - molecular basis and clinical implication

  • Practical course:

  • How to establish a research project in pediatric surgery - from the idea to the grant and from frustration to fun.
